  • Founders Room Chicago Union Station

Dan Bartlett, Curator of Exhibits of the Elmhurst History Museum will give a presentation looking at the economics of settlement in Northern Illinois in the 1830's and 40's and why and how the coming of the railroad affected the patterns of settlement. He will talk about roads, canals, and steamboats and the advantages and disadvantages of each to settlers in the western suburbs. Then he will introduce the Galena Chicago Union Railroad, particularly how it expanded and operated in the early 1850's.

Upon entering the Great Hall proceed to the southwest corner and head toward the glass sliding doors at the entrance of the Founders Room area. Through the doors to your left will be the Founders Room that back in the day was the barbershop.

See you there!
